Breaking News: A Business Manager's Dilemma

Well hi there.

If you haven't heard, Kanye West is reportedly being sued by his former Business Manager for $4.5 million. He allegedly told his Business Manager he was insane for thinking he would stick to the contract.

However, I'm not here to discuss the rapper or any rumors about him. I'm merely here to remind you the importance of having a good business manager and being a good business manager.

A business manager's duty is to help you maximize productivity, oversee daily operations, and scale your business. A 'good' business manager knows not only the business, but their client as well. Knowing your client's background and observing their patterns can help you stay a step ahead. Even if your client has displayed continuous unpredictable behavior due to mental health concerns or other reasons, you can conclude they have a pattern of unpredictability and they may possibly be impulsive. Having this information can help you prepare a plan, an alternative plan, and even a legal plan. It'll also help you determine if you desire to work with them at all.

Being a good business manager includes having compassion for your clients and understanding no matter their tax bracket they are human beings with real human experiences. However, having compassion does not mean "be a doormat", because you too are human. It's important that you create your rules, set your boundaries, and stick by them. Otherwise, you risk being taken advantage of. As a business manager I can personally attest to being "too" accommodating and available to clients and the outcome is never mutually beneficial.

Entrepreneurship is a journey on a mountainous path and your business manager is like your human walking stick, there to support you and move objects out of your path. For this business relationship to work transparency is required from both parties. Being honest about your background, current capabilities, and intentions can make this a much smoother journey.
